Soy Isoflavones for Health

I bet you have heard about the benefits of isoflavons.

What are isoflavones ?

Isoflavones are members of a large group of compounds called phytochemicals. Found only in plants, phytochemicals are not considered nutrients – that is, they are not necessary to support life. However, many of these compounds may promote health and reduce disease risk.

There is increasing evidence that diets rich in phytochemicals may help protect against cancer, heart disease, rheumatoid arthritis, macular degeneration, Alzheimer’s disease and other conditions.

Isoflavones are also referred to as phytoestrogens, or plant estrogens, because they have a chemical structure similar to the female hormone estrogen.

Soy foods and Isoflavones

There are very few dietary sources of isoflavones. In fact, soybeans and other soy foods such as soy milk are the only commonly-consumed foods that provide relevant quantities of isoflavones.

Many of us don’t consume soy products or soy supplements, and therefore have extremely low intake of these beneficial compounds. In contrast, people in Japan consume about 25 to 50 milligrams of isoflavones per day – the amount found in approximately one to two servings of soy foods.

Researchers have examined this discrepancy as a possible explanation for the comparatively low rates of certain diseases in Japan and other Asian countries where soy foods are prevalent.

Isoflavones and Health

Heart Disease: Isoflavones may improve the health of the lining of blood vessels, which can reduce risk for heart disease. They may also slow down certain negative effects of LDL-cholesterol (“bad” cholesterol), making the LDL-cholesterol less damaging to arteries.
Bone health: Clinical studies, in which researchers can control the amount of isoflavones consumed, also suggest that isoflavones support bone health. Several long-term studies are currently underway to build upon these findings.
Menopausal Symptoms: Some studies have found a relationship between soy food consumption and reduced menopausal symptoms, such as hot flashes. While not all menopausal women experience these benefits, those suffering from frequent hot flashes typically gain significant relief when they include a source of isoflavones in their diet.
Breast Cancer: Scientists first hypothesized that soy foods may help reduce breast cancer risk when they noted the historically low rates of breast cancer in Asian populations. Current research is examining the possibility that consuming soy foods during adolescence reduces breast cancer risk later in life.
Prostate Cancer: Isoflavones have been shown to inhibit the growth of prostate cancer cells in test tubes, and to slow the development of prostate tumors in animals. Consumption of isoflavone-rich soy foods may be one reason why prostate tumors grow slowly in Japanese men, and are less likely to become life-threatening.

Getting Isoflavones in Your Diet

Traditional soy foods such as soy milk and tofu are the most reliable sources of isoflavones.

A growing body of promising research indicates that consuming one to three servings of isoflavone-rich soy foods per day – as part of a balanced diet low in cholesterol and moderate in fat – may help to reduce risk for certain chronic diseases.
In addition to these proposed isoflavone benefits, soy foods also provide plenty of cholesterol-free soy protein, abundant calcium, vital antioxidants and many other nutrients that make good sense for your healthy lifestyle.

For your long term health its a wise decision to include soy products rich in Isoflavons in your diet.

Tips To Lose Weight Faster and Healthier

The concept of eating natural raw foods in their living state makes sense to every kind in the world except for humans. It's also quite funny that we're the only species that struggles with obesity and a contrasting weight obsessed culture.

How many wild animals suffer from obesity (or even other human diseases for that matter)? NONE!

Why?

Reason #1 - Raw Foods are Nutrient Dense

By choosing to eat more raw fruits and vegetables you inevitably bring more vital nutrients into your body. Since your body is receiving more minerals, vitamins, and phytonutrients than it's used to, you actually consume less food. It's by eating nutrient-void foods (ie. colas, processed and fast foods, etc...) that your body will constantly seek new foods simply because it's trying to meet its mineral quota.

But here's the irony. Even though you don't have to eat as much food when you eat living raw foods, you can still get away with eating more food without packing on the pounds. Here's why...

Reason #2 - Raw Foods Contain Food Enzymes

Natural living foods are unique because they contain enzymes which facilitate their host's (the food) digestion. When foods are heated above 118 degrees Fahrenheit 100% of their enzymes are destroyed - not to mention the majority of their vitamins and minerals as well.

Food enzymes are so powerful because they help digest the foods you eat and help provide the necessary catalysts for every single chemical reaction in the body. For instance, a raw avocado will digest itself inside the body because it contains the enzyme lipase - which breaks down fat. Your body's precious digestive enzymes need not worry. However, if you cook this avocado, then your body is forced to send out its "limited" digestive enzymes to do the work.

Reason #3 - Raw Foods are Water-Rich

Because raw foods are not cooked, their incredible water content is left intact. When foods are cooked, they become dehydrated as their water is "burned" away. As a result, the body is forced to work harder and use its own water to digest the food. This takes more energy and dehydrates your body - not a good thing!

Obesity: Life lost to Obesity: Not Just Quality

With two out of three Americans overweight today, we’re learning more and more about the numerous ways that carrying excess weight can really affect our health and diminish our quality of life.

But you may not have heard the hard facts about how overweight and obesity
can diminish your quantity of life.

Simply put, overweight people die younger. On average, they lose as many years to their excess weight as smokers lose to their cigarettes.

It stands to reason, doesn’t it? With all the health problems that we know are caused or worsened by excess weight, it is to be expected that those who carry an excess would die sooner than those who don’t.

Still, we don’t often hear the cost of our extra calories expressed in such stark terms. In the popular media, we’ve typically seen our weight problems discussed as a function of appearance and appeal, and feel the imperative to lose weight in order to be more attractive and more successful.

The medical establishment has been warning about the risks of obesity and overweight in terms that address their health consequences, but early death is seldom mentioned among these.

Yet Dutch researchers studying Americans found that there’s a lot to lose for those who don’t lose their extra pounds. Published in the Annals of Internal Medicine, the data from the Dutch study were gathered from more than 3,450 subjects between the ages of 30 and 59.

The researchers categorized people according to their body mass index, or BMI. A BMI of 19 to 24 is typically considered healthy, while a BMI of 25 to 29 is considered overweight, and a BMI of 30 or more is clinically obese.

Among those subjects who were overweight but not actually obese, the study showed that 40-year-old female nonsmokers lost 3.3 years of life due to their excess weight.

Dieting is Easier When You Love the Food. Delicious meals shipped to your door. It's a proven strategy that works!

My friend JillJ had tried many diets but here is what he wrote me about Bistro MD

I've been using the Bistro MD meals for about 4 months now and so far I've lost almost 20 pounds. Obviously, i am VERY happy with the results. At first the portion sizes in the meals seemed too small but the taste and quality of the foods more than make up for it. I think that's really the reason this program works: just great-tasting, healthy meals that you actually look forward to eating instead of dreading!

One thing I really like about the company behind Bistro MD is that they send you lots of interesting "educational" literature instead of the typical ads and "special deal" flyers that I saw with another popular weight loss program I used a couple of years ago (won't mention the name here). They are also very helpful if you ever need to call them. If you want to lose weight without starving yourself or having to eat lots of horrible-tasting shakes and diet foods I highly recommend the Bistro MD plan. It's easy and it just works!!

Natural Weight Loss With Detox

If you have been gaining weight and having difficulty losing the extra pounds, then you may wish to total body cleanse for weight loss.

Your body is equipped with several systems to help it detox naturally. Though, today’ s stressful lifestyles and unhealthy eating habits often overburden your natural system.

Your body just cannot keep up with the amount of toxic matter flowing through it. Conventional food such as sugar, sweeteners, meat, dairy, and baked goods have something in common - they all are toxic foods that will to keep you fat, lethargic, and most importantly, unhappy as long as you keep eating them. Not to mention toxic chemical substances.

Toxicity and Acidosis are Serious Problems.

Toxic waste begins to accumulate and the balance of your body is disrupted. The signs of imbalance are visible - you end up being overweight, having little energy, poor digestion and a poor immune system to name just few. If you never cleanse your body and keep eating a poor diet, over the years your body reaches what is know as its “toxic load.”

How 'toxic load' relates to the weight gain?

Where does all these toxins acid end up? Click HERE to read.

Goal Setting Skills For The New Year or Any Time

How To Get What You Want Out Of The New Year

Every year many of us choose a list of resolutions for the next year. Generally, these are habits we will try to do every day, or habits we will try to avoid.

Unfortunately, many of these resolutions are forgotten by March. A major reason for this is that it’s difficult to deny ingrained habits.

How to make our god intentions last or even better – how to get rid of those habits which makes our life miserable and how to develop new and helpful ones?

I have found that even the effort to adopt resolution shows a great sense of positive intention, a better alternative is to develop new goals for the future.

Goals are a better plan than resolutions for a few key reasons:

Rigid vs. Fluid:
When we set the resolutions they will stay the same: “I will stop eating junk.” “I will go to the gym five times a week.” If these are somewhat big changes, it may feel like a huge change with no increase. Goals, however, can be tackled in steps: start with baby steps and increasing in difficulty as you become more accustomed to the change. This makes goals more realistic and manageable for lasting change.

Top 10 New Year's Resolutions

Sense of Achievement vs. Sense of Failure:

Goals give you a direction to aim to, but even if you move forward with the baby steps you still are taking toward your goal and you can still feel like you’ve achieved something and are on the right track. Sense of achievement will help you moving in the right direction. Once you’ve broken a rigid resolution, however, it’s easier to feel like a failure and give up.

The Scope of the Change:
When you find a resolution too difficult to stick to, it’s usually get dropped and forgotten. With goals instead, if you find a planned change too difficult to carry out, you can drop that plan, but pick a different new behavior to try that will still lead to the same end result, and not lose sight of the goal.

Keep your future in mind.
Think for a moment of your ideal life, and where you’d like to be in two, five, or even ten years, and see if your goals bring you closer to your goal (ideal life). If so, they’re good goals to stick with. If you can keep in your mind the image of where you would ultimately like your goals to take you, it’s easier to stick with them. Try visualization for goal setting.

Think in terms of broad changes rather than specific behaviors.

For instance, resolving to “Develop A Stress Management Practice” gives more room for growth and change than “Meditate Every Morning” . While you’ll want to put your broad goals into specific behaviors, deciding to Develop a Stress Management Practice gives you room to experiment, and allow you to change course if you find that Mediation isn’t working for you.
